The multipurpose hall at the school was heavily used, especially during sports days and events. However, the acoustic condition of the space was far from ideal. Before any treatment was applied, the reverberation time (RT60) of the hall exceeded four seconds. In practical terms, this meant that sound lingered far too long in the space. Announcements became hard to understand, speech intelligibility was poor, and the hall felt extremely noisy even during normal use. The results clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of the solution. The hall’s RT60 was successfully reduced from more than four seconds down to approximately 1.2 seconds, a level that is much more appropriate for speech and announcements in a multipurpose environment.
With the improved acoustics, speech intelligibility increased significantly. Announcements are now clear and easily understood, even during busy sports days when the hall is filled with activity. The space feels noticeably calmer, less echo-ey, and far more comfortable for both students and staff.
